PRIVATE AND EXHIBITED AT THE SAME TIME.
I grew up in the Doctores with two Catholic aunts: Christs and saints on every wall, Mexican cinema from the forties on the television. In 1985, the year of the earthquake, I was fourteen and I started walking the city at night. I never stopped.
In the nineties Charly and I moved to the Condesa. I got a camera and started photographing everyone — parties, afters, closed houses, the people the day doesn't see. Direct flash. Color. No permission.
Domestic Fine Arts was the blog. I asked for emails at the party and sent the pictures the next morning. Kids of fifteen who couldn't go out followed it to know what had happened. I twisted it, invented stories — all with photographs.
In 2018 Edition Patrick Frey published Vida: only Mexico City, only at night. People, animals, buildings. A symphony. Now there is Chino Libros, a small room on Chihuahua street — and Domestic Fine Arts comes back from there.
